Another thing to add to the list of skills that a product designer requires, Movie making. Well ain't that just dandy.
So we were given a short briefing on how to create a short movie and three hours to shoot and edit it. Challenge Accepted.
So a group of us sat and tried to think about what our movie should be about. Where do you start? How does one come up with a movie? Honestly it's harder than it seems.
We decided anyway that comedy was the easiest subject that we could portray and act. Then we had to think of a story. Story telling plays a big part in making a movie, obviously. So we literally googled short stories, which didn't exactly help either. Thankfully Shane came up with something relatable to most college students. Once we had thought of a story we had to think about how to portray it, what scenes would we have to make and what props would we use to put our story across and make it funny? Although thinking of a story was the hardest part, once we decided the rest came easier.
The whole experience was enjoyable, we filmed it on the same phone to make things easier. I think the subject matter made the filming good fun, had we had to take it more seriously then things could have been more complicated. The editing took a while as we were not used to the programmes, however it gave us a good insight into the process of film making and editing. It has definitely helped me in preparing for our Sizzle Reel and thinking about what equipment I would need to make a more successful and higher quality film.
Anywayzzz please enjoy this production, starring Shane Regan
