How does one become Cre@tiV3?

So what does it mean to be creative? I never really thought about it before, what is my creative process? Normally the motivation for my work comes from the pressure of due dates. I leave most things until last minute and I have no choice but to create and work within a limited time, hence forcing my creative thought process. Time and time again, this is how I finish my projects. Why? I guess I find it difficult to compose myself into that creative mindset, to concentrate on my goals, or lose concentration on everything else around me. It takes me a while to lose myself in a project. I like to work in silence, no distractions.

Now I don't think I have been working to my full extent. I understand that there are other ways of bringing my mind into that creative process and I entend to explore them.

We were asked to leave class the other day with a sheet of paper and to simply go for a walk. Alone and in silence we were to stroll around the campus and to observe and document. Initially I thought that I would find myself bored, what was the point to this exercise? I didn't know. However I found myself getting lost in the task. It was wonderfully refreshing, walking around looking at things I had seen half a dozen times before only with new eyes. I came back with a page full of scribbles, half written words and sentences trying to describe the things I saw and the thoughts they arose in my mind. The way the buildings interacted with the sky, the shapes made when the trees obstruct the sunlights path to the earth.

I can see how easy it is to find inspiration in the mundane. I have tasked myself to further this exercise, practicing everyday, whether walking to college or riding in the bus or car on the way home, to look up from what would otherwise be my phone screen. I will also experiment with my creative process and other stimulats like music, food, and different environments.

Philippe Starck talks of dreams being one of his main sources of inspiration. Another thing found to improve creativity is sugar, so I'm off to eat some sugary sweeties. Wish me luck.
